Top Bottled Alkaline Water Brands

STOP!  Despite the title, we don’t recommend that you drink ANY brand of bottled alkaline water. Why? Well, there’s a whole bunch of reasons:

1. First off, there really is no comparison between bottled alkaline water and freshly ionized alkaline water. Bottled alkaline water has inferior, diminishing benefits (and who knows how long that water has been sitting on a warehouse shelf for?), and little in the way of therapeutic antioxidants.  

By contrast, ionized alkaline water is brimming with potent antioxidant power and all the incredible benefits that you would expect from fresh alkaline water.

2. Next, let’s take a look at the plastic bottles that alkaline water is sold in. That bottle – as mentioned above – might have been languishing in a warehouse for months, and on the supermarket shelf for days or weeks. We now know that storing drinks in plastic bottles potentially carries a health risk.

Many plastic bottles are now manufactured without BPA, but other toxic chemicals used to construct the bottle are also linked to ill-health. Fluorene-9-bisphenol (BHFP) is often used in the manufacture of plastics. It is known to have a detrimental effect on the health of animal test subjects and is considered to pose a risk of disrupting vital hormones in humans.

When alkaline water is stored in plastic bottles, traces of the chemicals used in the manufacturing process leach into the water, and into your body.

3. The other big problem with plastic bottles? The fact that they’re dumped in their millions into landfills and are choking our oceans. Microplastics and plastic waste pose a deadly threat to marine life, and plastic bottles are a big part of the picture: we all need to do our bit and say NO to disposable plastics.

4. What happens when one of the ‘top brands’ of alkaline water recalls its products on grounds of health and safety? That was the case in March 2021 when Nevada-based RealWater, Inc. withdrew its bottled alkaline water following an outbreak of acute non-viral hepatitis cases linked to the bottled alkaline water product.

The FDA issued an urgent warning about the risk of potential liver disease and took steps to withdraw the product from sale. On June 1, the FDA gave notice that Real Water Inc., would be shut down in light of the company’s violations of federal health and safety regulations.

5. So, that list of Top Bottled Alkaline Water Brands to Drink. We’ll come clean. There isn’t one. Clean, safe, delicious water for everyone is at the very heart of what we do. Between negligible alkaline ‘benefits,’ contaminated bottled alkaline water, chemical-laced water and the eco-nightmare of disposable plastics, we just can't recommend any bottled alkaline water brands.
