The Real Reason Athletes Dig Alkaline Water

Why Do Top Athletes Love Alkaline Water?

When a legend like Tom House – the trainer behind Hall of Fame pitchers Tom Brady, Greg Maddux, and Drew Brees – reveals that drinking Tyent alkaline water is non–negotiable for his athletes, it’s time to listen!

“We have been singing the praises of alkaline water for 8-9 years now…The bottom of our athletic food pyramid is hydration…and we’ve known for a number of years that an alkaline body recovers and heals faster than an acidic body.”

Tom ‘The Throwing Doctor” House

Tom’s comment highlights one of the key reasons why athletes love alkaline water: simply, an alkaline body is healthier than an acidic one.

What is pH & Why Does it Matter So Much?

It’s all about the pH scale that you probably remember from grade school – the sliding measure of alkalinity or acidity of a solution.

PH is the acronym for ‘power (or potential) of hydrogen.’  The pH scale goes between 1 and 14, with pH 7 being neutral. If a substance measures between 1 and 6.9 on the scale, it is considered acidic. A solution with a pH value between 7.1 and 14 is alkaline.

The human body’s naturally ideal pH is 7.3 – 7.45, and therefore slightly alkaline. Tap water – and most bottled water – tends to be acidic, along with a good deal of food present in our modern diet.

Excessive acidity is bad for all of us – it can lead to various types of inflammation and medical problems. However, for athletes, it can also significantly affect their performance.

Want to Learn the REAL Reason Athletes Dig Alkaline Water?

Here’s why: athletes exercise far more than the average person. Their muscles are being worked out more frequently, and for longer periods than other people. Lactic acid is present in our bodies all the time – it’s vital to many processes that keep us healthy – but excessive exercise can cause the lactic acid/blood ratio to alter.

In other words, the lactic acid in an athlete’s blood can become concentrated. This can lead to a drop in energy levels, increased muscle fatigue and weakness, and impaired performance. Drinking alkaline water helps to neutralize the lactic acid build-up, reduce muscle fatigue, and accelerate recovery.

You can imagine how major this is for a keen amateur athlete or sports pro. It helps us to understand the real reason why athletes dig alkaline water, and the wisdom of Tom House!

“If you’re gonna hydrate, hydrate with the best. Tyent Water is where it’s at.”

Tom House
