With the news that the federal state of emergency in Flint, Michigan had ended, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the horror stories about America’s water had started to abate.

However, just a few short days before the government started to shut up shop in Flint, a report was published on August 9, 2016, with the horrifying claim that the water supplied to 6 million American homes across 33 states was contaminated with excessive levels of industrial chemicals linked to cancer, hormone imbalances and other health issues.

Although the news crews of America may have packed up most of their equipment following months of reporting from Flint, the press pack is still hanging around.

I know! It’s exciting. Winter can be wonderful, with fires, Christmas and deeply-flavored casseroles blip-blipping away on the stove, but the promise of spring has a magic all of it’s own.

Of course, the weather might not change overnight, and there’ll still be chillier, breezy days, but generally, spring is definitely in the wings and about to make an appearance!

To be honest, I sometimes find it easier to realize fresh starts and good intentions now, rather than at New Year. The brighter skies, lighter evening and milder temperatures make it easier to tackle things head on than during those dark, cold January days.

This is traditionally the time of year when I squint distrustfully at the calendar and see that once again, it has completely fooled me into thinking that I still had many, many months of hiding beneath layers, and only exfoliating the bits of me that are on view to the public gaze (an area which roughly extends from my eyebrows to my top lip. A quick read about Reverse Osmosis water and it sounds great…the water is filtered to remove any of the bad stuff, and what splashes into your glass is pure and clean liquid refreshment. Well yes, it is. But that’s all it is. It’s the watery equivalent of a wasteland. No life, no minerals. But you could manage without them, maybe? Take a supplement?
