Healthy aging and longevity depend both on genetic and non-genetic factors.
While some of these factors are outside of one’s control – there are other factors that are determined by our lifestyle choices, emotions, and attitudes that have a strong correlation to our quality of life, long-term health, and lifespan.
To help give you a handle on what you can do to boost your longevity and promote healthy aging – here are a few of my favorite science-based longevity tips that you can implement into your life right now!
Tips to Live Longer
Stop Inflammation
Keeping inflammation low is a core component to bio-hacking your biology for optimal health and longevity. Low-level inflammation is the core, underlying cause of most illness, disease, faster-aging, and weight gain.
What keeps inflammation low? Diet is a top player.
A healthy diet plays a key role in maintaining and restoring health and promoting longevity.
Adding foods that tamp down on inflammation will keep, restore and optimize cellular health. Foods such as:
- Leafy greens
- Avocados
- Wild salmon
- Olive oil
- Blueberries
- Walnuts
- Chia seeds

Reduce Weight
It might seem obvious that carrying too much body weight can pose health risks.
Yet, carrying excess weight can contribute to a shorter life, even if you don’t have other health conditions such as heart disease or cancer.
Excessive weight gain can also lead to:
- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Other vascular diseases
- Diabetes
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Lung disease
Use an anti-inflammatory way of eating to begin reducing your weight and the inflammation that stems from the inflamed fat tissue.
Taking care of your health and weight can add not just longevity, but quality years to your life.

Drink Water
Our bodies are almost 80% water – which is why it is vital for our bodies to be adequately hydrated.
Drinking water is a key component to optimizing your health – but there is a special type of water that you can drink that is also a powerful antioxidant: hydrogen-rich alkaline water made from a water ionizer.
Hydrogen water, which is ionized alkaline water that contains molecular hydrogen, is powerful because the tiny hydrogen molecules can easily permeate the cell membrane into the cell.
Alkaline hydrogen water made from top-quality water ionizers can provide health benefits where other waters would fail, such as:
- Balancing your body pH
- Increasing your energy levels
- Helping to soothe the symptoms of heartburn
Adding in water to your daily routine is vital, but what’s even more crucial is the type of water you use.

Lack of sleep is a stressor on the body…so if you desire longevity, getting quality sleep should be a priority.
Getting enough sleep on a consistent basis is a critical factor for our overall well-being.
We all know what it feels like to miss quality sleep. When this is chronic, it can wreak havoc with our cellular health and ultimately our genetic expression in the form of poor health and/or faster aging.
You can practice good sleep hygiene by:
- Ensuring your bedroom is very dark
- Keeping your bedroom cool
- Turning off all blue light appliances, such as your computer or phone 90 minutes before bed
- Sticking to the same sleep schedule – even on the weekends
- Exercising often
These are foundational tools that you can start implementing right now to help create consistent, quality sleep.

Stop Stressing
According to the American Psychology Association, 75% of adults continue to experience high levels of stress.
There are many ways to proactively reduce your stress levels. By implementing just one or a few of these ways can help prevent the negative effect that chronic stress has on our biology and thus, extend our lifespan.
One of my go-to habits, whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed or stressed out about something, is taking part in a deep breathing exercise.
To make deep breathing a habit in your daily life – I recommend using the 4-7-8 Technique:
- Breathe in through the nose for 4 seconds
- Hold for 7 seconds
- Exhale for 8 seconds
For best results – repeat this exercise 6 times or as often as necessary until you feel that you’ve calmed down and can tackle the day ahead.
The 4-7-8 Technique can be used anywhere and for anything…no matter when you’re driving, trying to fall asleep, when you’re emotionally upset, or if you need to calm down right before a big presentation.
Other things that you can do to reduce your levels of stress include:
- Practicing gratitude and appreciation
- Giving to others in a way that makes you feel good (even if it’s just a smile!)
- Getting a body massage
- Exercising or going for a walk for a minimum of 5 minutes
