How Much Water Should I Drink A Day?

Staying hydrated is key for healthy cellular function, affecting everything from your skin to how much energy you have.

When you drink plenty of healthy, clean alkaline water from a water ionizer, you’ll get to enjoy health benefits such as:

  • Increased energy levels
  • Decreased sugar cravings
  • Improved memory

However, many people have NO IDEA how much water they are drinking because they are not keeping track and still following the longstanding advice to drink 8 glasses a day.

The new rule is that our daily water intake should be based on our weight and not any old number. Drink half your body weight in ounces daily.

  • For example, if you weigh 120 lbs. drink 60 ounces of water each day.

Remember, this is the minimum amount of water that you need to drink daily. This doesn’t take the following things into account:

  • Hot, humid weather
  • How active you are
  • What medications might be dehydrating you

Water Stops Hunger

Many people are unaware that they are mildly dehydrated and turn to food because mild dehydration stimulates appetite and thirst are often disguised as hunger.

Common symptoms of hunger include:

  • Empty feeling in your stomach
  • Stomach gurgling or rumbling
  • Dizziness, faintness or light-headedness
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Lack of concentration
  • Nausea

Research shows that simply drinking one glass of water halts the feeling of hunger and sugar cravings while promoting weight loss.

In fact – drinking just 17 ounces of water was shown in studies to increase metabolism by 24-30% for up to 1.5 hours.

To figure out if that feeling is hunger or thirst – drink water and then wait 5 minutes.

Water Improves Energy and Mental Well-Being

If you feel cranky and tired, studies show that mild dehydration can lead to fatigue, lethargy, headaches, lack of focus and foggy thinking. The next time you feel any of the effects, drink a glass of H2O!

When cells are even mildly dehydrated, your cellular function slows down…and so does your energy output.

Your brain is powerfully influenced by how hydrated you are, and this has an overall effect on your energy, mood and brain performance.

Water is Required for Healthy Skin

When your skin is lacking hydration, it will be dry and rough. No matter the amount of moisturizer you use, your skin will be back to its dehydrated state within minutes after applying. Therefore, water is a key component of healthy skin.

Think of a sponge that is dehydrated. It is hard and rough without water. Skin is essentially the same. When we lack water, the water in the body that we do have goes to the most vital functions in the body and our skin is last on the list.

Water not only hydrates your skin, but it flushes toxins away, such as bacteria, to help keep breakouts away. Hydrated skin also prevents and minimizes existing wrinkles.
