Luxury label bottled water – worth the premium cost, right?
Truthfully? No, for several reasons, but there’s one that you cannot afford to ignore. When we say that this is a shocking discovery, we’re not kidding.
Here’s a story pulled directly from the news headlines, after a voluntary recall for 14 of the company’s bottled spring water products.
“Pennsylvania Bottling Company Recalls Bottled Water Due to Possible E. Coli Contamination.”

E.coli: Just How Bad is It?
Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria, right there in your premium brand bottled water. So, how bad is it if you drink it? E.coli in bottled water can cause:
- Gastrointestinal illness
- Infections of the skin, ears, respiratory system and eyes
- Neurologic infection
- Stomach cramps
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Fever
According to the Mayo Clinic, young children and older adults have a greater risk of developing a life-threatening form of kidney failure as a result of E.coli.
“Human and animal feces may pollute ground and surface water, including streams, rivers, lakes and water used to irrigate crops. Although public water systems use chlorine or ozone to kill E. coli, some outbreaks have been linked to contaminated municipal water supplies.
Private wells are a greater cause for concern because they don’t often have any disinfecting system. Rural water supplies are the most likely to be contaminated. Some people also have been infected after swimming in pools or lakes contaminated with feces.”

Even More Shocking Reasons to Ditch Bottled Water
If the risk of E.Coli being in your water is not enough to make you stop buying bottled water, then here’s more:
- It’s wasteful. Producing the bottles for American consumption requires the equivalent of more than 17 million barrels of oil, not including the energy for transportation.
- It’s expensive. Bottled water can cost anywhere from 240 to 10,000 times more than tap water.
- It’s bad for the environment. Only about 13% of plastic bottles used get recycled. That results in 2 million tons of plastic water bottles in landfills and oceans.
- It’s a health risk because of E.coli, and BPA residue risk.
- It has zero antioxidants AND most brands have an acidic pH – unlike alkaline ionized water
Reports of E.coli in bottled water brands are a huge concern. Alongside the ongoing worries about plastic chemical contamination in bottled water, it’s no surprise that millions of people want a safer alternative.
